Back in the day, I’d wake up just shy of 4 a.m. every Christmas morning and (im)patiently wait until 7, when it was officially okay to share with my parents the unbelievably thrilling news of Santa’s overnight visit. During these predawn hours I’d sneak out of my bedroom, plug in the Christmas tree lights, and, under their festive twinkling, breathlessly check out that year’s holiday haul. All of my presents would be wrapped in the same paper, which was different from my brother’s, which was different from my sister’s, and I loved picking out my stack! Eventually, when the time came, I’d make Mom and Dad coffee, per their request, and, if my siblings weren’t already up, I’d drag them from their beds. (Though I’m not the youngest in our family, I was still always the first up on that special day. I still am, actually, though I do manage to make it to seven myself now!)
The reason for my near-sleepless excitement? I simply could NOT wait to see what Santa had selected from my carefully curated wish list! I began crafting the annual tome in October, as soon as the Sears holiday catalog was released, and edited accordingly until mid-December. After such an investment of time and energy, I was beyond ready to finally enjoy the fruits of my present-looking labor. And what a thrill it always was to open those Cabbage Patch Kids, Strawberry Shortcake dolls, and My Little Ponies!
Thirty years later, I no longer make wish lists, but I do have two Santas (i.e. Mom and hubby) who still appreciate ideas. And since most of my suggestions seem to be quilt- and sewing-related these days, I thought it’d be fun to share a few with you! So, following are some of my personal picks, as well as others I’ve earmarked for crafty friends and family members. They range in price and style, but I think there’s something for anyone and everyone who has a passion for stashin’ (fabric, that is)!
(As for fabric…that’s a whole other wish list.) 😉
Thanks for stopping by! Happy Sewing—and Shopping!
